An initiative that promotes and celebrates the importance of reading, Read to Me day was held on Wednesday 4th of September in Childers.
A day that brings together school groups, preschoolers, parents and caregivers to foster a love of storytelling and reading aloud to the children.
The purpose is to highlight the educational benefits of reading to children from a young age, improve language skills and build up imaginations.
Childers library, Isis State High School and other local community organizations participated in organizing activities that creaed a fun and engaging environment.
The theme of this years Read to Me Day was MEMORABLE MOVIE MOMENTS, focussing on books based on movies.
A special effort by Isis High School who were dressed to impress and put on a great show, performing for other surrounding state schools and groups.
Schools from near and far attended, such as Goodwood, Dallarnil, Codalba and Howard.

Mayor Helen Blackburn or should we call her, Princess Mayor Helen Blackburn wore a stunning princess costume for the day and Childers local Div2 Councilor Bill Trevor took time out of his day to read to the kids. Bill spoke fondly of his memories growing up, listening to his grandfather share stories, recalling these moments to be essential bonding experiences and highlighting the importance of taking time to read and bond with your kids, just as he reads to his own grandkids.
Time and donations from various Childers community groups and organisations is what made this event a huge success.
All students enjoyed a treat, as the Childers QCWA made cookies ‘with love’ for all.
