Childers Forest View Care aged care home has launched an exciting new program where residents create and sell a variety of handmade items, including resin art, earrings, noughts and crosses, bookmarks, serving boards, and pen holders; In order to pay for their social outings. The program has been quite successful, with some paintings selling for a total of $500 and pre-orders are being taken for other handmade goods.
To view and purchase these creations, visit the facility at 4 Morgan Street, head towards the café, and look for a bookshelf displaying the items. Note that only cash is accepted at this time, with all proceeds funding the residents’ social outings.
The program has already financed a trip to Woodgate, with plans to travel to Buxton next. With over $1200 raised from sales alone, the residents are paying their way. Future plans in discussion include holding a market stall, allowing the residents to sell their own handmade items.
This initiative, spearheaded by Residential Lifestyle Manager Chanelle, has empowered residents to express their creativity and contribute meaningfully. Chanelle notes that the lifestyle program has far exceeded expectations, providing residents with independence and opportunities they hadn’t imagined.
