MENopause! The age of reckoning.
The time where your hormones go on strike, patience evaporates and you, overnight, transform into a fire-breathing, rage-fuelled, sleep deprived, irrational, emotional demon from hell; feeling like a stranger has body hijacked your body and peeing in your panties.
Once a sane, emotionally balanced, mostly normal(ish) being, menopause was an uninvited and unexpected guest into my life at 45 years old. I was completely clueless as to the cause of this hormonal hurricane, or how to control it, or at least how to downgrade it to a less destructive tropical low.
I’ve watched, and swapped many a story, with my logical, kind, compassionate and rational friends wrestling with their own hormonal obliterating body snatcher.
It helps to know you’re not alone!
No, you’re not broken AND this is not your new normal!
This, I have concluded, is a test. Should you survive (and you will), you’ll come out the other side maybe with some wrinkles, greying hair and a little thicker around the middle but stronger and wiser with a different perspective on life and zero tolerance for other people’s BS or people-pleasing.
Congratulations, you’re transforming into a new version of yourself.
So, how did I support this transformation through the late-night sweats, demonic mood swings and irrational rage tornadoes to become a Jedi Grand Master Crone with more ease? I …
1. Consume LOTS of omega 3 EFAs : coconut oil, olive oil, cod liver oil, nuts & seeds, avocado, bone broth, salmon, sardines, grass fed butter/meats, free range eggs/poultry;
2. Enjoy LOTS of fresh, preferably organic, fruit, salads & vegetables, include a variety of fresh herbs;
3. Eliminated breads, pastas, cakes, pastries, sweets, rice, soy, grain fed meats, seed oils & more from my diet;
4. Avoid alcohol, coffee, sweeteners, soft drinks, dairy drinks;
5. Incorporate 18-36 hour fasting into my weekly routine;
6. Partake in things to calm my mind & body such as yoga, pilates, walking, etc;
7. If something/someone in my life DOESN’T bring joy, I get rid of it/them!
8. SLEEP! Lots of quality sleep.
Let’s face it! Menopause is a full blown reckoning that only the mighty can endure. Good on ya, Girls!
Until next month.
