To Remain
Your support helps Chitchat remain independently owned, giving us more time to focus on local people, local news and the stories that inform, engage, entertain and occasionally outrage.
To Give
Not everyone can afford a subscription. Those who choose to financially support Chitchat help us continue providing the printed newspaper free to thousands of readers across our communities.
To Speak
Small businesses, community groups, local achievers, events and everyday people don’t always make mainstream news. Your support gives us the time and resources to find and tell those stories.
To Grow
Financial backing helps us print more copies, reach more people, improve our website and digital coverage, and continue building a stronger regional newspaper for the future.
DEAR READERS
“Our free community newspaper has always been more than just ink on paper. It’s where genuine stories are told, voices are heard, and local groups and causes find a platform.
From our first issue to the most recent one, our mission has been simple: to give the community something useful, interesting, informative, entertaining, and freely accessible.
But today, we’re facing a crossroads.
The costs of printing, paper, and delivery have risen and with them, the pressure to fill every page with advertising just to stay afloat.
Our loyal local sponsors and businesses have supported us generously for years, but many are now stretched thin themselves, navigating the same rising costs and uncertainty we face.
And so the weight has fallen increasingly on our shoulders to cover the cost, trying to keep the paper alive by chasing ads, while the time and space for writing good stories shrinks.
Imagine what we could do if that pressure lifted.
With your support, we could:
- Keep the newspaper free and accessible to everyone, regardless of income.
- Spend less time selling ads to small businesses who are already doing it tough.
- Spend more time writing stories that matter.
- Give more space to local clubs, charities, schools, and grassroots initiatives.
- Provide regular updates from the groups and neighbours that make this community special.
Every donation helps us to cover the core costs of running the paper—printing, distribution, and keeping our writers going.
Support local stories. Support local connection. Support your free community newspaper.”
With deep gratitude,
Haley Brooke

Testimonials
“Hi, I have just picked up your paper first time reader and I am a big fan of your local advertisements. Being able to find locals for pest control, mechanic or hairdressing is great. I might not have known about it if not for your paper. Thanks”
“I live in Bargara, I love the context of this community paper, great stories and informative, I await each month with anticipation, well done”
“HI, I am the President of the Bundaberg Art Society and I stumbled across your newspaper in the Pocket Store House Bakery while enjoying my weekly coffee treat. My! Wow! Congratulations on a truly fantastic publication!! I used to write and take photos for the Guardian Newspaper many years ago when it was published in Bundaberg, so I do have a rough idea of the amount of work you are doing to get this published. I truly take my hat off to your vision and work undertaken to produce a newspaper that is really about local news!! It truly has made my week!! Again congratulations on an incredible publication and best of luck for the future. Warmest regards”
“I live in Gin Gin and think your Chit Chat paper is lovely!”
“Independent local free community newspaper. Refreshingly objective and informative with local news and objective commentary. Freedom of opinions and different viewpoints are encouraged and promoted. Important phone numbers, classifieds, gardening, Community-chatter, Sports news, Policing news and local business news are included. So thankful we have this resource available for the wider community of Childers, Woodgate, Gin Gin, Burrrum and Bunderberg and surrounds.”
“I really enjoyed reading Chitchat. It’s very informative to what is in and around our area. Well Done and Congratulations with a great free newspaper! Looking forward to the next edition”
“The best news paper I’ve read in years, full of beautiful uplifting stories and an authentic vibe about it, thank you”
“Chitchat Newspaper is a beautiful embodiment of the community spirit. A professional publication available for FREE in hard copy and digital formats, the Chitchat Newspaper provides valuable information to locals and visitors alike. Full of encouraging local stories, important dates and local contacts, everything is relevant to our area. Through celebrating our people, local news and events and business information, there’s something for everyone. It is a gift to be cherished. Personally, I love reading good news and on that, Chitchat delivers. For our not-for-profit grocery store, the ability to advertise in our local area is such a blessing, helping us get the word out. It’s a newspaper to be read slowly, enjoyed over a quiet time, allowing goodness to soak in. It reminds us we’re all a part of a larger community and not alone.”
“Chitchat newspaper is great! First time reading on at the local coffee shop. It’s great having insider information about the town and activities. As an Agnes Water local who needs to visit Bundaberg frequently, I don’t get to see / much besides the shopping centres. It’s great to see.”
“So many locals rely on the Chitchat for all the local news and classifieds. Its a household name in the Childers district.”
“I love this beautiful publication! Community storytelling is so important.”

“It’s with great pleasure that I congratulate you on your editorial skills and dedication, in 2025. I would like to wish you every success in 2026 and beyond. The ChitChat Community Newspaper has come forward, in leaps and bounds. It’s now a vibrant , well put together read that I am sure will hold on to the Community values. It’s no longer just from the Farm to the Coast. Your readers are varied , from the locals, the visitors passing through.
