Local pride is running high in Mundubbera, as one of its own, Jake Dingle, continues to make his mark on the national and international woodchopping stage.

Jake’s passion for the sport runs deep. A skill handed down through generations, he followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, first picking up a toy axe at just five years old and mimicking the motions at the family wood heap.

By 13, he was learning the craft for real, beginning a journey that would see him compete against some of the best axemen in the world.

Despite travelling across Australia for competitions, Jake proudly calls Mundubbera home. He says ‘it doesn’t matter if you come first or last, you still get the biggest cheer.’

That spirit was on full display recently, with Jake playing a key role as steward and competitor in the Australian Men’s Woodchopping Team’s outstanding performance at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The team secured a clean 3–0 sweep in the Trans-Tasman Relay Series, overcoming fierce competition from New Zealand in what’s often dubbed the “Wimbledon of Woodchopping.”

It’s a major achievement for the team and a proud moment for Jake, whose dedication to the sport continues to inspire.

Congratulations, Jake, on an incredible win.
