Art isn’t always confined to a canvas sometimes it shimmers under the lights, flows with every step and transforms the human body into a moving masterpiece.
This winter, the Bundaberg Regional Galleries is inviting visitors to experience exactly that through A Wearable Canvas, an exhibition presented in collaboration with the Australian Wearable Art Festival (AWAF).
Running until 10 October, the exhibition showcases wearable artworks that blur the line between fashion, sculpture and fine art. Extending textiles beyond traditional garments, each piece has been designed not simply to be worn, but to tell a story, challenge ideas and spark conversation.
Many of the spectacular creations on display have featured in the Australian Wearable Art Festival, one of Queensland’s premier wearable art events celebrating artists who transform everyday materials into extraordinary works of art.
This year’s festival crowned Kym Cunningham with the coveted Supreme Award for Artificial Intelligence (AI): The New God…or a Monster in Disguise?, a thought-provoking piece exploring humanity’s relationship with artificial intelligence.

The celebration continues on Saturday, 5 September, when the Bundaberg Regional Galleries hosts the A Wearable Canvas Gala.
The evening will unveil a parade of never-before-seen wearable artworks, with artists from across Queensland presenting new and innovative creations before they appear anywhere else.
Guests will also hear from Australian Wearable Art Festival founders Wendy Roe and Helen Perry, who will share the inspiration behind the festival and offer a rare glimpse into the creative journey from concept to catwalk.
The evening also includes a curated culinary experience featuring canapés and bespoke cocktails created exclusively for the event.
