This weekend, the Childers Uke Day Out was a fantastic celebration of ukulele music, community spirit, and good times.
The event kicked off with a lively Ukulele Workshop at the Wesley Methodist Church, held from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM on Friday. We were thrilled to have Shirley-Ann Rowley from Cairns, along with her talented team, who helped organize the workshop with the support of a generous $5000 Grant from the Bundaberg Regional Council.
Shirley-Ann led us through a fun and interactive day, even teaching everyone a quirky Kazoo song that had us all laughing and playing along!
The workshop included morning tea, a lunch break, and ended with a wonderful Concert, where participants showcased the skills they’d learned.
Later in the day, we gathered at the RSL for a Jam Session from 4:00 PM, where the ukulele music continued to flow.
The local Scouts kept us well-fed with delicious hamburgers and sausages, adding to the relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The event wrapped up with a final Grand Hotel Jam Session on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 PM, bringing everyone together one last time to make music and celebrate the joy of the ukulele.
The Childers Uke Day Out was a resounding success, thanks to the hard work of the organizing team and the generous community support. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!
The event was organised by dedicated Uke player Cecily Fay from the Childers Ukulele Group (The String-a-Longs).
