Move over, five-star resorts

— Bargara’s Ingenia Lifestyle Drift has just raised the bar for how life after 50 should look, feel, and play out.

This week, residents, staff, and dignitaries gathered for the grand opening of Club Drift, a state-of-the-art sports and wellness clubhouse that promises a new era of connection, fitness, and fun.

What makes it special?
For starters, it isn’t just another community hall with a few folding chairs and a kettle. Club Drift boasts a lap pool, a gym with a stretch room, a yoga lawn, sauna and steam rooms, a games room, consultation spaces, and casual dining areas with those envy-inducing ocean views. For anyone who likes their recreation a little more active, there are also pickleball and tennis courts to keep the blood pumping. Not to be outdone, existing favourites —including the bowling green, dog park, and direct access to coastal walking tracks, remain front and centre. After all, what’s life at Drift without a brisk stroll by the sea or a friendly roll on the green?

From home to hub
Perhaps most surprising is the backstory: What residents are now calling their “second home” began life as a family home. Ingenia, with Bundaberg builders JRZ Homes, reimagined and transformed the property into today’s wellness wonderland. Ingenia Lifestyle Head of Development – Queensland, Adam Forrester, said every detail was thoughtfully considered.

“What was once a simple residential home has been transformed into a contemporary sports and wellness facility for our residents to enjoy every day,” he said.

“From reconfiguring the original footprint to integrating the pool, gym, dining areas, yoga lawn, sauna, steam rooms, and pickleball courts – every detail has been carefully considered.”

The clever reuse of the site is a milestone not only for Ingenia Lifestyle Drift but also for the Bundaberg region, showing that innovation doesn’t always mean starting from scratch.

Building community, not just clubhouses
Ingenia Lifestyle’s Head of Operations, Nicole Jentz, said Club Drift represents something far more important than bricks and mortar. “Today is a celebration of the community we’re building here at Ingenia Lifestyle Drift,” she said. “These facilities do more than provide wellness and recreation spaces, they bring people together. Whether it’s a morning swim, a yoga class, a friendly game of pickleball, or sharing a meal on the balcony, these are the spaces where new friendships are formed and memories are made.”

It’s a sentiment already shared by Drift’s pioneering residents. Take grandmother Rosemary Welldon, who was the very first to move in back in March 2024. She’s ready to dive in — literally. “The pool looks lovely,” she said. “And I’m sure we’ll have some beautiful community dinners and barbecues.”

A community on the rise
Since opening its doors in October 2023, Ingenia Lifestyle Drift has been steadily growing. Already, 100 homes have been completed or are under construction, with a total of 332 planned across five stages. Hugging the ocean shores with never-to-be built-out views of the Coral Sea, it’s no wonder the development has become one of Australia’s most desirable oceanfront communities for the over 50s.

And the good news keeps coming. A second clubhouse is already on the drawing board, positioned right on the oceanfront to create another vibrant hub for socialising, relaxing, and celebrating.

About Ingenia Lifestyle
If you’ve not heard of Ingenia Lifestyle before, here’s the nutshell version: established in 2013 by Ingenia Communities Group, it’s now one of the country’s leading names in seniors’ housing, with more than 4,500 residents across 22 communities in New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria. Their philosophy is simple: to provide a vibrant, independent, and fulfilling way of life for Australians in their later years.

Rather than the traditional model of owning both home and land, Ingenia Lifestyle offers residents the chance to purchase a brand-new home while leasing the land beneath it. That means no stamp duty, a lower entry point, and fewer headaches — making it easier and more affordable to enjoy quality coastal living without compromise.

More than just “downsizing”
Ingenia insists that communities like Drift aren’t about winding down — they’re about levelling up. With spaces like Club Drift, it’s hard to argue otherwise. Whether you want to sweat it out in the gym, steam it out in the sauna, stretch it out on the yoga lawn, or laugh it out over cards in the games room, there’s no shortage of ways to connect and thrive. And with more homes, more facilities, and more friendships on the horizon, it seems the Drift community has found the secret to ageing well: keep moving, keep connecting, and keep enjoying the view.
