The Builder Renovating New Life to Your Home

After more than thirty years in the building trade, qualified builder David “Dave” Adkins is putting his experience to work for homeowners across the local Wide Bay region.

With 38 years of working and living in the older suburbs of Brisbane renovating and repairing homes Dave and his wife decided to relocate to Woodgate.

Dave & Michelle bought into the area five years ago and made the permanent move from Brisbane two years back, building their own home from the ground up in Woodgate. That project sits as a working showcase of what he does best: taking a vision and turning it into something built to last. He has since completed projects for homeowners across Woodgate and Childers, and is continuing to focus on serving these communities and the surrounding coastal areas.

Renovations are Dave’s specialty. That covers bathroom and kitchen upgrades, verandas and decking, home extensions, repairs and refits to older-style homes, structural alterations, opening up living spaces, and the kind of full-room overhauls that genuinely transform a property. He’s particularly drawn to older homes that need someone who can see the potential and has the skills to bring it back to life.

A significant part of Dave’s recent work has involved modifications to help homeowners stay comfortably in their homes as they age and their situations change. Alterations to existing homes to make them more user friendly. Walk-in showers, accessible bathrooms, ramps, grab rails, and wider doorways are all jobs he’s done many times over, and he understands how important it is to get these right. Done well, these changes don’t just improve safety, they improve daily life.

As a fully QBCC-licensed and insured builder with three decades on the tools, Dave brings a depth of capability that’s rare in regional areas. He’s also hands-on with excavation work, and scaffolding, which means most jobs can be run efficiently without needing to bring in a chain of subcontractors. That translates to better timelines and tighter budgets for the homeowner.

Dave is upfront about what he takes on and what he doesn’t. His focus is on substantial renovation projects where there’s enough scope to do the job properly and deliver something the owner and builder are genuinely proud of.

Communication is something Dave considers non-negotiable. One of the most common frustrations homeowners share about building work is being left in the dark, waiting for tradies who don’t show, or not understanding why a job has shifted. Dave runs his projects to a schedule so that the subcontractors are aware of their timeframes and the impact on following trades and suppliers.
Because of the current tradesman skill shortage within the local area he is constantly looking for quality subcontractors to add to the team. Dave requires all of his subcontractors and workers to provide high end quality finishes to all aspects of the build , so if you are wanting to work for a reputable, fair and straight up builder please feel free to contact.

Clients are kept informed about what’s happening, when it’s happening, and why. If a schedule changes, they hear about it early. If a decision needs to be made, it’s flagged clearly so the project keeps moving.

That approach is built on a simple idea: a renovation is a significant investment, and the homeowner deserves to feel confident and informed throughout the entire process, not just at handover.

Dave is currently building out his project pipeline and offers no-obligation on-site consultations across Woodgate, Childers, and surrounding areas. If you’ve been thinking about a bathroom renovation, a kitchen refit, a veranda, an extension, or breathing new life into an older home, it’s worth a conversation.
