Winter skin isn’t “bad” skin – it’s stressed skin asking for support.

Cooler air, wind, indoor heating and longer hot showers all work against your skin barrier.

The result? Dryness, flaking, sensitivity, redness – and for some, even more breakouts. This is your cue to simplify and strengthen, not strip and overcorrect.

First, understand this: your skin barrier is everything in winter. When it’s compromised, moisture escapes and irritation gets in.

So instead of reaching for harsher actives, shift your focus to repair and protection.

Think gentle cleansing – no tight, squeaky-clean feeling. If your skin feels stripped, it is. Swap foaming cleansers for cream or oil-based options that respect your natural oils.

Next, layer hydration. Not just a moisturiser, but hydrating serums and barrier-supporting creams. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin and ceramides help hold water in the skin where it belongs.

Don’t ditch your SPF. UVA is still present in winter, and it’s one of the biggest drivers of premature ageing.

And from the inside out? Winter calls for warming, nutrient-dense foods – think broths, slow-cooked meals, healthy fats and plenty of minerals to support hydration at a cellular level.
Finally, resist the urge to overdo it. Too many products, too many actives, too much switching – this is where winter skin unravels.

Instead, keep it simple. Stay consistent. Support your barrier.

Because healthy winter skin isn’t about doing more – it’s about doing what actually works.
