The mornings are starting to get quite chilly. Winter isn’t far away, and along with it, the dreaded FLU season.

It’s now time to fortify your immune system. But how?

Vitamin D plays a crucial role in boosting and regulating our immune system by influencing the way our immune cells work. Vitamin D enhances our immune cells ability to fight infections, suppress excessive inflammation and influences the production of antimicrobial peptides, which are crucial for defending against pathogens.

How can we access natural forms of Vitamin D?

Vitamin D is the only vitamin our skin can make AND it’s free.
Our bodies are so magnificent, our skin absorbs the sunlight and converts it into useable Vitamin D. I know what you’re thinking … Aussies get plenty of sunlight, right?

Wrong.

‘On average, one in four Aussie adults, that’s 23% of the population, are Vitamin D deficient, with levels fluctuating significantly depending on the season. In winter it’s more like 36%, while in summer the average drops to 14%.’

So how do you ensure you get plenty of sunlight, without the aging effects of UVA or the burning effects UVB?

If you catch the early morning sun everyday as it pokes its rays over the horizon, you will receive ample beneficial sunlight without the harmful effects of UVA or UVB.

So, rise and shine, dear reader! Make the most of our gorgeous climate here in sunny Qld.

An alternative is to supplement with foods that are naturally rich in Vitamin D. These include oily wild caught fish such as salmon, tuna, sardines, cod/cod liver oil and mackerel, as well as egg yolks, beef liver and mushroom.

So keep healthy and well this winter season, with Vitamin D.

Eat yourself beautiful.

Until next month.

Yours in Skin Health.
