Batteries For Everyone

Well, that was sort of the election pitch. And I can tell you it has worked because the number of phone calls we have fielded already has been amazing.

The dust has barely settled on the 2025 Federal Election results and people are keen to get a battery rebate. We are not aware of any announcements yet! But we can add you to the contact list if we hear anything.

One of the common questions we get asked is “will it apply to grid connected customers as well as off grid customers?”

While I don’t have the exact answer for that, I can say that the last battery rebate program was available for both. And with the end of the bigger feed in tariffs looming, many are looking to batteries to offset their future energy costs.

And what better way than to have that cost partially subsidised by the government.

The biggest issue we had with the last round of battery rebates was finding certified installers who were on the approved list to install. At that time there was nobody in Childers (or the greater surrounds) who was on the list.

Those in Bundaberg or further afield were so busy that they either didn’t return phone calls or just didn’t want to travel to do the job.

Well, I am pleased to say that this time around, Childers will have at least one local electrician who will be on-grid and off-grid battery certified.

If you are considering batteries for your system and would like to take advantage of any future rebates there are a few things you can do to see if you are battery ready.

If you have a grid connected solar system, see if your grid tie inverter is a hybrid unit that can have batteries added – not all are so it’s good to check.

Alternatively, if you are off grid, have a look at your system to see if battery expansion is possible. Is there enough room in the battery cabinet for more batteries, can the system handle more batteries or is it “maxed out”?

It can pay to do a little homework now so that you are prepared and ready to go for the first round of rebates.

My guess is it will be a first in first served or more like “Sorry we were oversubscribed”.

I only hope that any rebate program will be better run than the Pink Batts or the Funds for Schools programmes. Federal governments don’t have the best track record for delivering national programmes.

At least my readers will be a little prepared when they do finally get around to offering a battery rebate.
As Promised…Right!
