Childers Upholstery has been given national acclaim in Warwick Fabrics’ Walk a Country Metre project, an Australia-wide initiative celebrating regional upholsterers and their connection to fabric, craft, and community.
As part of the project, Warwick Fabrics invited selected upholsterers from across Australia to each create a piece using one metre of fabric from the Wren Collection, interpreting their own sense of place, trade, and craftsmanship.
The initiative highlights the enduring relationship between fabric design and the skilled makers who bring it to life in regional communities. Childers Upholstery created an ottoman that reflects both the trade and the community of Childers. Positioned beside the iconic Peanut Van, the piece offers a playful nod to the region’s agricultural identity, while also encouraging local workers to take a moment to rest and “put their feet up.”
Marion would like to honour her tradesman, Duane Peterson, in recognition of his skill, dedication, and valued contribution to the work of Childers Upholstery.
Marion and Duane’s inclusion in Walk a Country Metre recognises their ongoing contribution to regional craftsmanship and the strong connection between skilled trades, materials, and community life across Australia.
It is always inspiring to see the small historic town of Childers punching above its weight in an Australian-wide competition.
Well done, Marion and Duane.
